Principal Judy Mtulah Update on Graceland School

by Pastor Jerry Theckston

God’s richest blessings and love dear friends!!  This blog report is from our dear sister, principal Judy Mtulah!  She left a good paying job with a private Christian School to pull children as young as 15 months old off the slums in Kibera and bring them to her own little shanty without support from any other source but the day-by-day provision of the Living God!!

Other volunteers from the slums began to join her and now she has 130 kids and a staff  teaching them to read, write and learn math skills while using the Scriptures as a basis for all their studies!

I recently asked her for an update on how God provides, which she graciously provided!  We send $1,000/ month from gifts provided by lovers of Jesus!  And last year we were able to send an additional amount to allow the teachers and kids to travel outside the slums (a first for most all of them!) to see animals from their own Country, go swimming in a pool for the first time and sit in the City government chairs and learn how their leaders do their jobs!

Outside of having this kind of care during the day many of them would no longer be living… (thanks for your patience with this long article- just read what you want!). Just for reference, on the monetary categories, if you move the decimal point two places to the left – you’ll get a pretty accurate sense of the dollar amount - i.e. 8,000 Kenya shillings = $80

Principal Judy:

We thank God for the year 2026, Is anything too hard for the Lord? We are trusting God for breakthroughs upon breakthrough.

We have all learners from Daycare to grade 5 we have a population of 130 and 8 staff. We are trusting God for funds for another staff, also trusting God for land.

Activities for the year 2026

Term I Fun Day

We are still scouting for a place since the prices have gone high.

Term II

Swimming - Planning to do it at the same place as in the year 2025.

Term III

Educational trip

Hopefully, it will take place in September if all goes well as planned. I shall be updating you as time goes by.

Digital Literacy

From last year, 2025, I opened my sitting room for all classes at different times, depending on the class timetable, to take these lessons. This year am trusting God for at least two or more computers to do computer lessons for learners.

At the assembly every Friday , we initiated the programme like spelling bee for learners just to boost their confidence and fluency. Also, guidance and counselling for learners, especially grade 4 and 4 learners.

God is with us, and we trust him for guidance and wisdom as we do his work. Your love and prayers are highly appreciated. I love you, mum Sue and the team. Kindly receive our many hugs and kisses ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Jerry:

I have another question- just because we haven’t talked about your income for a while (especially since your school is growing)- what are your average expenses each month and what other income do you receive? You never have to answer any of my questions, it’s just helpful to have a general idea of your needs… thank you!

Other business I do to get revenue to support Graceland.

1. TRACKSUIT These are games uniform. I buy from the market then sell to the parents to get money to help the school keep running.

2. PHOTOCOPY Do you remember the machine you bought for me during covid in the year 2020 the money we get from it also supports the school.

Jerry:

Thank you, dear Judy, for the information! You are doing a great job and we all are very proud of you! Please pass our love on to all the staff and kids!

Great love in Christ!! jerry, sue and team
